Various Types of Juicers Explained

A juicer is a piece of kitchen equipment that allows us to extract the juices from fruits and vegetables. A juicer is a convenient kitchen appliance since it works very quickly and provides us with a quick drink and in some cases snack even. Juicers come in various shapes, sizes and prices and there are many things that can set juicers apart from each other. One of the greatest differentiating points between juicers is the kind of extraction mechanism they employ. The method they use pretty much sets up their price. The other thing that sets their price is the brand of the juicer. There are some brands which may not offer the greatest quality but their prices are still higher than most deserving brands. In this article I will be explaining the different types of extraction mechanisms the juicers use and what sets them apart from each other.

Cold Press Juicer

These juicers are relatively smaller in size but are also much more efficient than your normal centrifugal juicer. The way these types of juicers work is by pressing the fruit against a surface and extracting the liquid to the point where the pulp has dried up. The pulp is then released into a different compartment and the liquid is in another one. Some cheaper versions of the cold press juicer may not contain a pulp catcher so you will have to place a plate underneath to avoid a slippery mess. These kinds of juicers are much more efficient than a centrifugal juicer as less heat is produced due to the improved juicing action. The pressing of the fruit produces little to no heat and allows the nutrients to stay in contact. The pulp is also squeezed till the last drop which means more produce is extracted per fruit.

Vertical Single Auger Juicer

This is just like the cold press juicer in the sense that their extraction mechanism is the same. The difference these juicers have is that they have their feeding tube on the top and in a vertical position. This allows more fruit to be put in at once.

Centrifugal juicer

The centrifugal juicer is perhaps one of the most basic and mostly used juicer types out there in the market today. This is what your normal juicer looks like and is the simplest and quite possibly the least efficient producer of juice you can have. If you go to the store to get one and just ask the salesperson for a juicer without specifying any type, this is what you will probably end up with. This type of juicer produces a lot of heat and easily destroys the nutrients the liquid extract contains therefore it is cheap and easy to find. If you want something more efficient, you will have to look for something else. This type is only good for those who want the simplest kinds of juices and do not care about the efficiency. Currently these types of juicers are what people are buying more frequently nowadays.
